Our Pilots

We are actively exploring pilots in emerging economies to establish proof of concept. The demand for resilient and reliable energy is increasing while countries and companies work to meet their climate goals. The fastest way to achieve these goals is by utilizing modern technologies and transitioning to clean power systems.

Kinetic Coalition’s model is centered on using high-integrity energy transition credits to kickstart the move to clean power systems that deliver economic, health, and environmental benefits to local communities in emerging economies. The revenue stream created by these credits can be leveraged by host countries or asset owners to unlock some of the financing needed to implement their energy system transformation strategies.

Kinetic Coalition’s work is tailored to each country or asset owner’s needs and can include actions such as early coal plant retirement, accelerated renewables deployment, grid and storage improvements, and/or the development and implementation of enabling policies.

Our goal is to help countries and asset owners achieve their clean energy and climate goals unique to their economy and power sector. These pilots are at an early stage and are helping to shape the initiative.

The Philippines

Per capita electricity consumption in the Philippines has risen by 74% over the last few decades and coal continues to provide 79% of the country’s electricity as of 2024. With the majority of its power suppliers locked into long-term contracts to generate this increasingly uncompetitive and unreliable form of energy, the Philippines faces an uphill battle transitioning to clean energy and meeting the country’s growing energy demand.

Kinetic Coalition’s pilot in the Philippines is focused on the early decommissioning of a coal plant paired with replacement with clean energy and storage. This energy transition project will provide reliable, resilient energy while supporting and providing health benefits, jobs and economic investment to local communities.

Chile

Despite being a regional leader in energy production, Chile still faces a high dependence on energy imports, limited storage infrastructure, disparities in energy access, and the increasing impacts of climate change such as rising annual temperatures. The country’s prevailing energy system will make it difficult to meet its 2050 carbon neutrality goal and 70% renewable capacity target.

Kinetic Coalition is exploring how it might support the crediting of long-term emissions reductions that address the country’s congested transmission network and modernize its grids to support long-term energy security, while ensuring accessibility, reliability, and affordability for local communities.

Dominican Republic

With ambitious 2030 goals for nearly one-third of its energy to come from renewable sources and to reduce its economy-wide emissions by 27% relative to business-as-usual levels – 20% of which is contingent on external financial support – the Dominican Republic is looking to address frequent blackouts and energy infrastructure issues while transforming the makeup of its power system.

To support the Dominican Republic’s clean energy transition, Kinetic Coalition is exploring support for energy sector system-wide changes that enable the transition to a cleaner, affordable, and more reliable grid.

Becoming a pilot

Kinetic Coalition evaluates prospective pilots based on stringent social and environmental integrity standards. We welcome countries and asset owners interested in accelerating their clean energy transitions to become a pilot.
